INTERVIEW with Skyla Lauch || Miss Galaxy Australia 2023

SD: Hi Skyla. Can you introduce yourself to my readers who don’t know you yet?

SL: Hi there, my name is Skyla Lauch, I am 23 years old from Melbourne and am a very proud Aboriginal woman whose people are from the Gunditjmara Kirrae Wurrung Bundjalung tribes. I work full time as a cultural educator and part time as a model.

SD: You won Miss Galaxy Australia 2023. Can you tell us more about it?

SL: This year was my second time competing with Australia Galaxy Pageants. I first competed last year, this was my first ever pageant and went into it so blindly, but absolutely fell in love with the Galaxy system. This year I was so excited to return with a bit more knowledge and understanding about the wonderful world of pageantry and was extremely grateful to come home with the crown and title of Miss Galaxy Australia 2023.

SD: How did you become interested in pageants?

SL: I have been interested in pageants since I was a little girl, watching things like Miss Universe and Miss World on TV, seeing these women who of course were undeniably beautiful, but more importantly doing incredible things in their communities and achieving amazing things.

SD: What’s in your makeup bag right now?

SL:
Inside my makeup bag is a little bit of anything and everything. However my favourite product at the moment is my SkinO2 Contour blush and glow powder palette. There are so many uses within this one palette and I use it everything I do my makeup.

SD: What is your vision of success?

SL:
For me success isn’t defined by how much money I am earning or how many nice things you have. It is about how many people I can help and empower, the positive impacts I can make and the overall sense of happiness and fulfilment I feel within myself. These are the things I aim for then trying to achieve success.

SD: What do you most admire in a woman and why?

SL: Resilience! As women we face many challenges, but it is the way you come back from these challenges that shape who you are. So seeing women overcoming their challenges and being resilient is something I admire.

SD: If you could give one piece of advice to your 14 year old self, what would it be?

SL:
I’ve had many big dreams since a very young age and have always been my own toughest critic. I would say to not put so much pressure on yourself and enjoy being a kid! Life is too short and adulthood is going to be a stressful time, so enjoy being 14 because while it lasts.

SD: Who are you most inspired by in the Pageant World and why?

SL: I may be biased, but my incredible director Shikye Smith is absolutely my biggest inspiration in the pageant world. She is also a previous Miss Galaxy Australia and is our own Australian queen who has gone on to win the International Galaxy title. She is a incredibly accomplished young woman, but despite her many successes she remains a kindhearted, down to earth person which I admire so much.

SD: How have beauty pageants impacted your life and your career?

SL:
Pageantry has helped me find a confidence within myself that I never even knew I was lacking before I started competing. This confidence has helped with my public speaking, people skills and most importantly my self belief, which are all things that help me  day to day in my career.

SD: What is your best beauty secret?

SL:
My best beauty secret would be finding and using products that contain Native Australian plants. These plants are some of the highest sources of vitamin C in the whole world and will leave your skin feeling amazing!
