INTERVIEW with Saint Liberté || Brisbane Fashion Festival 2024 Designer (Hancock Prospecting Next Gen Group Show)
SD: Hi Amber/Saint Liberté, for my readers who don’t know you yet, can you please introduce yourself?
AT: My name is Amber Tamaki and I am the Head Designer and Founder of Saint Liberté Couture Robes and Sleepwear.
We specialise in designing one off Couture Robes that are boldly opulent and timelessly elegant. They are beautiful investment pieces, handcrafted in-house from the finest silks and lace. Each piece is designed to embody the beauty of its wearer, reflecting their uniqueness and value.
Alongside our Couture Robes, we also have a luxurious collection of Saint Liberté Sleepwear to complete your enviable at-home wardrobe.
SD: What was the biggest inspiration behind your latest collection?
AT: Our latest collection of Couture Robes is named ‘New Day Rising’ and the inspiration behind the collection is the movement from dusk to dawn celebrating the day that was and the hope of the New Day. It is a reminder of the passing of time, the constancy of seasons and the ever present hope that offers eternal joy. It reminds us that we can find beauty in every season and to embrace the artistry of life’s precious moments.
SD: What helps you get in the zone when you’re designing?
AT: I am definitely a visual person and find that a constant flow of inspiration in my daily life fuels my designing (and an organised workspace). I love being inspired by other artists and creators, whether it is a well written article, cleverly designed architecture, beautiful homes or other designers skill and talent, I appreciate the boldness of sharing ones talents. I also love to make everyday tasks into moments to be enjoyed. I think it is the key to finding joy in life. Something as simple as donning your pyjamas at the end of the day can take on a marker that ends what was and gives permission to embrace and enjoy the hours that are yours.
SD: How do you want people to feel when wearing your pieces?
AT: The intention behind each of our designs is to feel beautiful, elegant, sophisticated, modest and alluring. We hope to make our sleepwear a part of the day that helps you to take a deep breath and relax into your evening. That it becomes synonymous with self care and embracing the artistry of life’s precious moments.
We all know the rush of confidence we feel in a new outfit that expresses our style and personality. Remembering that the ensemble boosts our confidence because it conveys what we feel inside or reflects our value. It is this lifting of the head, shoulders back, steely confidence, that reminds us that we are beautiful, valuable and strong. That is what we hope people feel when wearing Saint Liberté.
SD: What is your favourite part of being a designer?
AT: One of my favourite parts of being a designer is seeing the influence and value that intentional dressing has upon shaping our mood, confidence and outlook, so why stop at days end. Designing Couture Robes with its beautiful juxtaposition of practicality and beauty is what drives me, particularly as these are garments that few see us in, so the value in how we feel is predominantly for us and perhaps our nearest and dearest, not for public opinion.
SD: Without giving too much details away, what should we expect from your collection for Brisbane Fashion Festival 2024 event?
AT: For our debut collection at this years Brisbane Fashion Festival you should expect opulence, texture, luxury and confidence. This is just the beginning of what is to come.
