SD: Hi Kellie, welcome back to my blog, can you pls introduce yourself again for my new readers?

K: Hi Suzanne, thank you for having me back again.  I am Kellie and I am the owner and designer of RicRac Road clothing.  I started RicRac 4 years ago when I wanted a career change.

I launched 2 weeks prior to the first round of covid lockdowns so the future looked a little uncertain during that time - especially as I was making clothes to make you feel good, but also clothes that you want to wear OUT of the house to events and work. Thankfully, I got through it.

SD: Do you have a project you are working on you would like to share?

K: I am working on adding extra sizes to my range.  I have added in sizes at both end of the size scale this year and am hoping to keep increasing size options.

SD: What are your 3 must follow Instagram accounts and why?

K: @that_budget_stuff - Alicia is completely invested in helping us all save money. She is very motivated and it has a contagious enthusiasm.  Even if I implement or check or compare one thing that she suggests  - I end up saving money.

@bymariandrew - Mari is an author and an illustrator and she manages to capture life’s moments and express feelings so simply and so well.

@mosseri - he is the head of Instagram and if you want to learn how what is being favoured by social media -  this is the place to learn. He also does a spot on content creator of the week and I have discovered some incredible, inspiring creators through his suggestions.

SD: What are your successes, and how did you achieve them?

K: My biggest success is making people feel amazing - that was always my goal (my motto is clothes to make you feel good).

The messages I regularly get from customers telling me how they felt incredible in my clothes, how they were stopped and asked about their dress,  and how they have never felt more beautiful…THAT is my goal.

How did I achieve it? Lots of trial and error.  I have made styles that have not worked well and some that look great on all shapes and sizes.   I have learned to build and improve on those styles that resonate with people.  I have one dress that I am up to the 13th version of the same dress and some customers own all 13. I defintely think that that dress is a success.

SD: What is the biggest lesson you learned, and what have you learned since your brand was established?

K: Communication is THE most important aspect of your business. There is no shortcut to creating strong relationships with your customers.  When things go wrong - be honest and open and let your customers know that something did not turn out quite how you expected. When things go right - share that success with them too. I have found that most people understand when things go awry and are cheering you on from the sidelines when they go well.

SD: Without giving too much details away, what should we expect from your collection for Brisbane Fashion Festival?

K: I am still deciding on the final items I am going to use for my collection for the parade but Summer is my favourite time of year so it will be vibrant and colourful with some very popular styles I have done before and a few new ones that have never been seen.
