How I Overcome My Anxiety

I have lived with anxiety as long as I could remember. The racing thoughts, the unstoppable heart racing, the rapid speech - are some of my symptoms of anxiety.

Stay calm, I tell myself.

But I ask myself honestly, how do I overcome this and stay calm?

I tell myself: By grounding yourself, Suzanne.

Think of the five senses:

1) Ground yourself by seeing something

2) Ground yourself by smelling something

3) Ground yourself by tasting something

4) Ground yourself by hearing something

5) Ground yourself by touching something

I think grounding myself is the most powerful tool that helps with my anxiety.

When I am delivering a speech or meeting new people, I feel anxious. But to tell you the truth, I honestly sometimes “ride” with the anxiety. Sometimes the anxiety helps me perform a task “faster” - but this can also be a weakness of mine too.
