SD: Hi Jade. Can you introduce yourself to my readers who don’t know you yet?

JM: Hi I'm Jade, 27 years old. I was born in Cairns (tropical Far North Queensland) however my  family heritage extends to the shores of Scotland and Italy. I have faced many challenges in  my youth including being an only child and caring for my mother from the age of 15. My passions are of music, nature, art, and photography. I would say that I'm a compassionate  and creative being! I've recently completed studies in a Diploma of Music as I'm a self taught pianist and composer, and I aspire to be a piano teacher in the future.

SD: You’re a Miss World Australia Preliminary Finalist 2024. Can you tell us more about it?

JM: The Miss World Australia platform highly encourages contestants to fundraise for “Variety  Australia, The Children's Charity.” The pageant's motto is known as “Beauty with a  Purpose”. As a contestant, we had the honour of meeting the pageant director Deborah  Miller, who had also formerly directed Miss Universe Australia for over seven years. Deborah was very fashionable and skilled with orchestrating the opening catwalk  choreography routine. The QLD preliminary finals were held back in May, along with the Top  Model Australia finals. We had the chance to showcase an evening dress, and engage in a Q&A section. I would recommend other girls to join Miss World Australia, however would  ensure that you focus on planning a fundraising event within your financial budget and  gather as much support from family and friends as possible.

SD: How did you become interested in pageants?

JM: I've always had a love for fashion, makeup, creative photography and beauty. Back in  2013 I completed a modelling deportment course with “Victoria's Models” in Canberra.  Around that time my mum suffered from a major head injury resulting in a fractured skull and I became her carer at home. As of 2022, I was casually scrolling through my Instagram  feed and noticed the advertisement for the Miss Australia Pageants finals. I decided to  apply and was excited to receive my first sash in the mail! Beauty pageants have given me  the platform and opportunity to delve back into the world of fashion, modelling and fun!

SD: What’s in your makeup bag right now?

JM: I always have a foundation with me on the go, along with the Palmer's coconut lip balm.  Other makeup essentials include blush and a brown mascara for that natural glowing look. I love vegan and cruelty-free beauty brands such as Natio Australia and Skin O2.

SD: What is your vision of success?

JM: My vision of success is simply not to "be the best" but to "try your best". If you can have a  healthy and positive mindset, and are determined to achieve your goals then you are  already on your way to a vibrant future. I find that keeping a daily or weekly journal can be a  healthy way to reflect upon thoughts, dreams and goals in life.

SD: If you could give one piece of advice to your 14 year old self, what would it be?

JM: The same advice I would give to other young girls; things will always get better and there is  a whole future ahead waiting to meet you, just stay true to yourself and keep shining like a  sunflower. Believe in your dreams and work on your talents and hobbies!

Who are you most inspired by in the Pageant World and why?

JM: I would say Brooke Rankin, because she was there as a mentor and inspiration when I  competed in my first beauty pageant, the "Miss Australia Pageants" national finals of 2023.  Brooke is kind, graceful and down to earth, she was crowned as Miss Global Australia  2022, and is the co-founder of Kyneton Pilates Studio, based in Victoria.

SD: How have beauty pageants impacted your life and your career?

JM: Being involved with beauty pageants has been an uplifting way to grow confidence, to  form friendships, to build a portfolio and empower women to follow their dreams.

SD: What is your best beauty secret?

JM: A good night's sleep, a daily cup of coffee or two and occasional sunshine!
