INTERVIEW with banbu || Brisbane Fashion Festival 2024 Designer (Hancock Prospecting Next Gen Group Show)
SD: Hi banbu, for my readers who don’t know you yet, can you please introduce yourself?
banbu: Hi! I'm a Kooma and Ugarapul Woman living and working in Meanjin (Brisbane). I enjoy music, dancing and designing.
SD: What was the biggest inspiration behind your latest collection?
banbu: This collection draws inspiration from the magic of summer nights, country sunsets and dance floors. All of which are my favourite things about Summer.
SD: What helps you get in the zone when you’re designing?
banbu: I often immerse myself in music or podcasts. They provide a background that helps my busy brain focus and sparks new ideas. Additionally, spending time outdoors is crucial for my creative process.
SD: How do you want people to feel when wearing your pieces?
banbu: When people wear my pieces, I want them to feel empowered and confident. Each design is crafted to enhance the wearer's individuality and make them feel their best.
SD: What is your favourite part of being a designer?
banbu: My favourite part of being a designer is the initial creative process. It's very fulfilling to see an idea transform from a simple sketch to a tangible piece. Choosing the right fabrics is especially exciting because it’s where the design begins to come to life. The texture, color, and quality of the fabric can make or break a piece, and finding the perfect match is always rewarding.
SD: Without giving too much detail away, what should we expect from your collection for the Brisbane Fashion Festival 2024 event?
banbu: You can expect an array of colours, a variety of textures, and playful pieces in my collection for the Brisbane Fashion Festival 2024. I’ve focused on creating designs that are not only visually pleasing but also fun statement pieces.
