My Personality Got Me The Job, Not My Qualifications
I’m not going to lie…when I applied for this mental health job, I had no qualifications whatsoever.
I was still studying, and was only a quarter way into my mental health course (Certificate IV).
I still haven’t finished the course I started.
I am still studying self-paced and online.
While working full-time.
I am naturally a very friendly person too.
I am a people person.
I care a lot about other people.
Sometimes more than myself.
I am usually ‘the life of the party’.
And yes - I remember names better than faces.
I proved to myself that one can get a job without a qualification.
I am working full-time in mental health as a Mental Health Peer Support Worker.
I get to be creative in my job.
I get to teach art to adults with severe and complex mental health issues.
I have a good range of skills that can be used to be successful in this mental health job.
My friendliness, my creativity, my positive attitude, and my passion to help others.
This job also allowed me to express my creativity even more.
Before coming to this job, I naturally had/have a positive outlook on life too.
No matter how many times I’ve fallen down, I still look for the positives in life.
I am very lucky and blessed to get this wonderful job where I can give back to the community as well.
