INTERVIEW with Kristy Salm || Owner of Bay Skincare

Owner of Bay Skincare - Kristy Salm

SD: Hi Kristy. Can you introduce yourself to my readers who don't know you yet?

KS: My name is Kristy, I’m 27, I live in Brisbane with my Husband, and I am the Owner of Bay Skincare.
I am a homebody and love nothing more than spending time at home with my pets, plants, and a good book. I also LOVE Skincare!

SD: What was the process of starting your own brand like?

KS: It was a slow process, there is a lot of trial and error from formulating the products, running trials, and finally launching to the public.
Taking the leap was scary but it is one of the most exciting and rewarding things I’ve done.
It’s been quite the journey and we still have so far to go.

SD: Talk us through your skincare routine.

KS: In the morning I wash my face with our Mango Milk Cleanser & Microfibre Facial Puff.
Then I use the Watermelon Renewal Serum, Energised Toning Mist and Watermelon Sorbet Moisturiser and then SPF of course!

In the evening I double cleanse and apply my Firming Eye Serum . Then I use Seabuckthorn Oil which I massage in and leave to sink in for a moment.
I reach for our Sweet Berry Jam if I feel like a need a little more moisture.

I don’t have a lot of congestion in my skin, but once a week I’ll use our Pineapple Enzyme Peel to remove dead skin cells and clean out my pores.

SD: What have been the hurdles you’ve experienced throughout your career?

KS: I am a bit of a perfectionist so I tend to sit on tasks longer than I should because I don’t want to go ahead until everything is perfect!
Sometimes I need to just trust in my own abilities and go with the flow.

SD: How do you define beauty?

KS: I define beauty as someone feeling their very best from the inside out. Someone who is confident, smiling and kind is the most beautiful in my mind.

SD: Tell us about when you started your business and how the idea came to be what it is today?

KS: I started Bay Skincare after thinking about my ideal Skincare range; tropical fruit scents, light on the skin and made from natural products. After trying a few formulations, we found some winners and started trials right away. Before I knew it, I was designing the packaging and getting ready to launch. I chose Skincare because I am so passionate about Skin health and the profound impact it has on how we feel about ourselves.
Listening to what our customers need and crafting products that change the way they feel about themselves is what I love most about being in this industry.

SD: Can you talk about the ingredients you use and where you source them from?

KS: All our Ingredients are sourced locally, we use only the best quality plant-based ingredients that are rich in Vitamins and Antioxidants. Every ingredient is made without the use of annual by-products, and we only work with suppliers with strict cruelty free practices. Our products are made locally in Brisbane in Small batches of no more than 100 at a time. This is to ensure our customers are receiving only the best quality, fresh skincare possible.

SD: What is the one product you always recommend from your range?

KS: Our Watermelon Sorbet Moisturiser, It is our best seller for a reason!
Bay Skincare was built around this product, it smells divine & leaves the skin soft, hydrated and protected. Moisturiser is a staple in any Skincare routine so it’s a must have product in my eyes.

SD: What has been the most rewarding part of being a business owner? And what has been most challenging?

KS: Being able to help people to feel more confident in their skin is hugely rewarding for me. I also love using our platform for fundraisers and charity events that are close to my heart. The most challenging part was starting the business while working full Time at a 9-5 and funding all costs out of my own pocket without any loans or assistance.
