SD: Hi Michelle, for my readers who don’t know you yet, can you please introduce yourself?

I am the designer and seamstress for Pinkpineapple.

I have worked in fashion and costume for more than 20 years in Brisbane as a sample machinist and Costumier. As a skilled seamstress, I am passionate about garment workers rights to a safe work environment and living wage, both here in Australia and worldwide. I know that the fashion industry is one of the world’s biggest polluters and I run my brand with a vision to buy nothing new and a zero waste policy.

SD: What was the biggest inspiration behind your latest collection?

I am inspired by strong women - both women in my life and women of the world. I am always inspired by the beautiful colours and prints of the 60s and 70s and the transformational nature of wearing colour.

SD: What helps you get in the zone when you’re designing?

I am constantly designing in my head - I take screen shots and jot down notes everyday when I see women, art, colours or fabrics around me. Some designs take months or years to really blossom. I don’t work to a seasonal schedule, and prefer to go with the flow.

SD: How do you want people to feel when wearing your pieces?

I want my customers to feel gorgeous- their best self! I want them to appreciate the beauty and quality of a well made, sustainable design. I want my customers to appreciate the beauty of vintage fabrics and to know their history.

I offer custom alterations for every design to ensure the most comfortable and well fitted garment possible.

SD: What is your favourite part of being a designer?

My favourite part of designing is seeing happy customers really loving and treasuring their piece.

SD: Without giving too much details away, what should we expect from your collection for Brisbane Fashion Month?

You can expect a collection of sustainable, beautifully crafted, fun and colourful pieces.
